There are enough challenges on a good mountain hike when everything goes right; that’s part of what makes it fun. But poor quality equipment, especially shoes, can take the fun right out of the trip.
I have been on many a hike where blisters or injuries from poor-quality shoes have made the person wearing them miserable. Out of all the things that need to be high-quality on a hike, one’s shoes top the list.
In this article, I will give you my list of the top five highest-quality men’s hiking boots. I did rank them in order, starting with the best (in my opinion). I used the comfort and support of each as my primary criteria. But remember, each of these boots is excellent.

1. Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex – Men’s
The Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex men’s hiking boots weigh just under 3 pounds as a pair, 2 pounds 14.4 ounces. The upper portion of the boot is made from Gore-Tex® so that it is waterproof and breathable.
Salomon used their expertise in running shoes to make these boots follow the natural flexion of your feet to increase comfort. Salomon’s ADV-C 4D chassis gives these boots extra ankle and outer foot protection, support, and stability, particularly when carrying a heavy backpack.
The midsoles of these boots are made from EVA foam. The outsoles of these boots are made from Salomon’s Contagrip® TD rubber. This rubber is highly durable. The outsoles are also designed to provide excellent traction on rugged or slippery terrain.
