1. Arc’Teryx Beta Men’s Rain Jackets

Arc’Teryx Beta Jacket Men's

One thing I like about Arc’Teryx’s Beta Men’s Rain Jackets is that they have a variety to choose from. For example, they have AR (all round), LT (lightweight), and Insulated versions.

What makes Arc’Teryx Beta Rain Jackets waterproof and windproof is the outer 3-layer shell material Gore®Tex. And their Gore®C-KNIT Backer Technology makes the material breathable as well.

The Gore®C-KNIT Backer layer is made of a very fine circular knit fabric. These fine yarns are also slightly stretchy and have a softer, more natural feel. All the fabrics in this jacket are all PFC-free.

Like most materials used on rain protection clothing, these jackets were treated with a very high-quality, durable water repellent (DWR). The bottom line is with Arc’Teryx Beta Men’s Rain Jackets, you get full shelter from the wind and rain while still being breathable.

Pros:

  1. Windproof & Waterproof: The Gore®Tex outer shell is wind and waterproof.
  2. Breathable: Gore®C-KNIT Backer Technology adds breathability to the outer shell.
  3. Seam Taped: This jacket is fully seam taped to keep the rain off you.
  4. Stretchy, Comfortable Feel: The Gore®C-KNIT Backer makes the fabric slightly stretchy with a more comfortable feel.
  5. Lightweight: The Men’s Rain Jackets range in weight from about 13 to 15 ounces. The insulated version is just a pound and a half.
  6. Durable: The jacket provides good resistance to tearing and scuffing and is notably tougher than most similar or less-weight models.

Cons:

  1. No Pit Zips: This jacket doesn’t have pit zips that you can unzip for extra ventilation.
  2. Price: This high-quality jacket is the most expensive on the list.

2. Outdoor Research Foray II GORE-TEX® Jacket

Outdoor Research Men's Foray II GORE-TEX® Jacket

The Outdoor Research Foray II GORE-TEX® Jacket is another great rain jacket using a Gore®Tex outer shell. Gore®Tex fabric isn’t air permeable like other fabrics used in today’s rain jackets. Air permeable fabrics have a more constant breathability rate, whereas Gore®Tex’s breathability increases with the person’s heat or activity level, which is when you want the jacket to breathe anyway.

And, like the Arc’Teryx Beta Men’s Rain Jacket above, this jacket is considered full shelter from the wind and rain. All the fabrics in this jacket are all PFC-free.

One nice feature of the Outdoor Research Foray II is that you can unzip the sides if you need to for increased ventilation. This is an exceptionally handy feature for wearing this jacket during heavy activity.

Pros:

  1. Windproof & Waterproof: The Gore®Tex outer shell is wind and waterproof.
  2. Breathable: Gore®Tex jackets are highly breathable and increase breathability with heat or activity.
  3. Seam Taped: This jacket is fully seam taped to keep the rain off you.
  4. Lightweight: This Rain Jacket weighs 11.85 oz (336 g).
  5. Durable: The jacket provides good resistance to tearing and scuffing and is notably tougher than most similar or less-weight models.

Marmot Men's GORE-TEX® Mitre Peak Rain Jackt

The Marmot Men’s GORE-TEX® Mitre Peak Rain Jacket is another great rain jacket made from GORE-TEX®. That is the material all of the highest quality rain jackets are currently made of. All the fabrics in this jacket are all PFC-free.

This is Marmot’s high-end rain jacket. They call it their “jack-of-all-trades” jacket with all their best features. They use a three-layer GORE-TEX® ripstop nylon across the shoulders and hood to make this jacket durable.

This jacket has PitZips to increase ventilation during heavy activity. GORE-TEX®naturally increases its breathability as you heat up anyway, but the PitZips is a nice feature to increase the ventilation when needed. The seam taping of the above three jackets adds to their rain protection.

I have learned over the years that you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap clothes they don't perform as well and don't last as long. Quality clothes are much more enjoyable to where and because they last so much longer they save you money over time. And they perform a lot better. That is why I enjoy writing for this website.
