Top 10 Warmest Men’s Midlayers 2024!

Warmest Mid-Layers

One of the critical elements in your winter wardrobe is the mid-layer. This layer of winter clothing goes over your base layer (your underwear) and under your outer layer. The idea of layering is if the temperature warms up a bit, you can take off your outer layer and be more comfortable.

If the temperature is not extremely cold, your mid-layer can sometimes be your outer layer, depending on the weather.

Especially in extremely cold conditions, your mid-layer can be an important part of your insulation from the cold. So, what it is made of and how it performs is critical.

In this article, I will list the top 10 warmest men’s mid-layers for 2024 that I have found! Let’s get into it! See also my article: “Top 10 Warmest Men’s Winter Boots for 2024!” and “Top 5 Warmest Men’s Base Layers 2024!

1. Fortress BasePro Crew

Fortress BasePro Crew

Fortress’s BasePro Crew is an excellent mid-layer for staying warm in a frigid winter. Its effectiveness primarily comes from the technologically advanced AERIS™ 250 insulation it uses. This special insulation can wick away moisture, pulling sweat and dampness away from your body. And should you become soaking wet, it will still keep you warm and comfortable.

To test their AERIS™ 250 insulation that Fortress All Weather Gear uses, they decided on a day that was -10 F to drive up to a frozen lake, cut a hole in the ice, and jump in; seriously, they really did this!

Fortunately, on several of the times that they did this, they filmed the test. What is amazing about the Fortress AERIS™ 250 insulation is that within a minute or two after stepping out of the icy water, they stopped shivering and were warm and comfortable. They did not have to change out of their wet clothes.

The videos below show one of Fortress’s tests in – 10 F weather. Please watch the video; I think you will be impressed.

Pros:

  1. Effective Insulation: The Fortress BasePro Crew uses its technologically advanced AERIS™ 250 insulation, which keeps you warm in extremely cold conditions, even when wet.
  2. Moisture Management: It effectively wicks away moisture. It keeps you dry and comfortable, ensuring you stay dry even when you sweat.
  3. Breathable: The Fortress BasePro Crew is breathable, making it comfortable to wear in a wider range of cooler temperatures.

Cons:

2. Fortress BasePro 1/4 Zip

Fortress BASEPRO 14 ZIP

Fortress’s BasePro 1/4 Zip is an excellent mid-layer for extremely cold winter weather because of its AERIS™ 250 insulation. This insulation is fantastic because it can efficiently remove moisture and keep you warm, even when soaking wet.

As I mentioned above, to test their AERIS™ 250 insulation, Fortress All Weather Gear decided to go up (on a day that was -10 F) to a frozen lake, cut a hole in the ice, and jump in. I am glad I was not the guy they had jumped in the water!

As you can see in the above video, Fortress filmed this test. What is amazing to me is that within a minute or two, the person is no longer shivering and feels warm and comfortable. I have watched multiple videos of Fortress having different people do this test, and in every case, the person is warm and comfortable in just a few minutes, and they never have to change to different clothing. If you haven’t already, I recommend you watch the above video for yourself!

I have learned over the years that you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap clothes they don't perform as well and don't last as long. Quality clothes are much more enjoyable to where and because they last so much longer they save you money over time. And they perform a lot better. That is why I enjoy writing for this website.
