Top 5 Highest Quality Women’s Hiking Boots 2024!

Women's Hiking Boots

Like most things we buy, getting high-quality hiking boots makes the whole experience much more enjoyable. Sure, you still have the typical break-in period, but I am always happy I went with quality once that is over.

This is especially true with hiking boots. I have seen blisters or an injured foot from lack of shoe support ruin many a hike. There are enough challenges during a good hike if things go well. Poor-quality hiking shoes multiply that tenfold.

In this article, I will give you my list of the top five highest-quality women’s hiking boots. I did rank them in order, starting with the best (in my opinion). I used the comfort and support of each as my primary criteria. But remember, each of these boots is excellent.

I recommend reading over the characteristics of each and deciding which suits you better based on your needs. See also my related articles: “Top 5 Highest Quality Women’s Hiking T-Shirts!” and “Top 5 Highest Quality Women’s Convertible Hiking Pants 2024!

1. Hoka Kaha 2 GTX-Women’s

Hoka Kaha 2 GTX-Women's

The Hoka Kaha 2 GTX women’s hiking boot uppers are made from waterproof nubuck leather and Gore-Tex® footwear fabric. These are also treated with a PFC-free water repellant for extra protection. So it will keep your foot dry in most hiking situations.

This pair of boots weighs in at 1 pound 15.2 ounces, just under 2 pounds. These boots are specifically built for women.

Hoka includes in these boots what they call their “HUBBLE® heels with SwallowTail™ geometry.” This foot support design gently catches your foot’s impact, especially if you use a heel strike pattern. Hoka says this improves heel-to-toe transition while hiking.

This boot is also designed to support against Achilles tendonitis. And its Vibram Megagrip rubber outsoles provide you with great traction.

Pros

  1. Waterproof: The nubuck leather and Gore-Tex® fabric combination is waterproof.
  2. Breathable: The nubuck leather and Gore-Tex® fabric combination is highly breathable.
  3. Great Support: The technology in these boots provides superior support for your ankles and feet.
  4. Traction: Its Vibram Megagrip rubber outsoles provide you with excellent traction.

Cons

  1. Cost: Higher-quality boots tend to cost more than lesser-quality ones.

2. La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX – Women’s

La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX Women's

The La Sportiva Ultra Raptor II Mid GTX women’s hiking boot is a bit lighter than Hoka’s boots we spoke about above. This pair weighs in at 1 pound 7 ounces. These boots were also designed explicitly for women.

To keep the boots waterproof and breathable, La Sportiva uses a Gore-Tex® extended lining. Its Gore-Flex® nylon mesh delivers rugged protection as well as flexibility.

The boot’s midsoles are made from compression-molded MEMlex and nylon-molded TPU Transfer shanks. This provides the support you need with a springy bounce.

The outsoles are FriXion® XF 2.0 rubber with La Sportiva’s Impact Brake System™ X-Axis™ and Trail Bite heels to give you the best possible traction when hiking slick or uneven terrain.

Pros

  1. Waterproof: The Gore-Tex® fabric and nylon shanks used in this boot are waterproof.
  2. Breathable: The Gore-Tex® fabric is breathable.
  3. Great Support: These boots’ compression-molded MEMlex and nylon-molded TPU Transfer shanks provide superior support.
  4. Traction: Its FriXion® XF 2.0 rubber with La Sportiva’s Impact Brake System™ X-Axis™ and Trail Bite heels provide you with excellent traction.

Cons

3. Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 – Women’s

Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 - Women's

The Altra Lone Peak All-Weather Mid 2 women’s hiking boots were also designed explicitly for women. They are similar in weight to the La Sportiva shoes we discussed above, weighing in at just 1 pound 8 ounces.

These boots are as waterproof as the other boots on this list. However, they are not as breathable. They use an eVent bootie construction out of a waterproof material. These boots keep the water out but also can hold your sweat in. So, I wouldn’t recommend these boots for extended hikes in the warmest months.

The boot’s Altra EGO™ midsoles are soft yet springy as you walk in them. Their Balanced Cushioning™ platform keeps the balls and heels of your feet the same distance from the ground. This is said to reduce the impact of your landings.

One thing fascinating about these boots is their FootShape™ toe boxes. They allow your toes to spread out and relax naturally while keeping your big toe straight. Their outsoles have MaxTrac™ and StoneGuard™ to stabilize the boots in rocky terrain.

Pros

  1. Waterproof: The eVent bootie’s waterproof material is waterproof.
  2. Reduce Impact: The boot’s Altra EGO™ midsoles and Balanced Cushioning™ platform cushion your feet and reduce impact.
  3. Spread Out Toes: Their FootShape™ toe boxes allow your toes to spread out and relax naturally while keeping your big toe straight.
  4. Traction: Its MaxTrac™ and StoneGuard™ outsoles provide you with excellent stability and traction.

Cons

  1. Cost: Higher-quality boots tend to cost more than lesser-quality ones.
  2. Not Breathable: The eVent bootie waterproof material is not breathable.

4. La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX – Women’s

La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX - Women's

The La Sportiva Nucleo High II GTX women’s hiking boots, again explicitly designed for women, are the lightest pair on this list, weighing just 1 pound 6 ounces. In making these boots, La Sportiva targeted backpackers.

Their uppers are made from a durable nubuck leather using what La Sportiva calls their Nano-Cell™ technology to allow breathability. La Sportiva says that this Nano-Cell™ technology works with the Gore-Tex® Surround waterproof membranes to create this breathability.

The midsoles of these boots are compression-molded. They provide both cushion and support, bouncing back with each step. And to provide maximum traction while hiking, La Sportiva uses their Vibram® Nano outsoles with Impact Brake System™.

Pros

  1. Waterproof: The nubuck leather and Gore-Tex® fabric combination is waterproof.
  2. Breathable: The nubuck leather and Gore-Tex® fabric combination and Nano-Cell™ technology create high breathability.
  3. Cushion & Comfort: The compression molding provides superior support and comfort.
  4. Traction: Its Vibram® Nano outsoles with Impact Brake System™ provide you with excellent traction.

Cons

  1. Cost: Higher-quality boots tend to cost more than lesser-quality ones.

5. Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex – Women’s

Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex - Women's

The Salomon X Ultra 4 Mid Gore-Tex women’s hiking boots, designed explicitly for women, weigh similar to most on this list, 1 pound 10 ounces.

The uppers in this boot are made of the waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex®. Salomon uses their SensiFit™ design to support the foot all the way around. It also uses Advanced Chassis™ Salomon’s support system that absorbs the hit from uneven and changing surfaces to reduce foot fatigue.

The outsoles of these boots are Salomon’s All Terrain Contagrip®, designed to give you superior traction on rough or slippery surfaces.

I need to complain for a second here. In my efforts to get into the nitty-gritty, researching the technical aspects of each boot, I found Salomon’s information the least specific. They use fluff, happy-sounding words that don’t tell you anything. I know they are quality boots, yet they need more knowledgeable writers. But I digress.

Pros

  1. Waterproof: The Gore-Tex® fabric is highly waterproof.
  2. Breathable: The Gore-Tex® fabric is highly breathable.
  3. Great Support: The SensiFit™ design supports the foot all around. Its Advanced Chassis™ absorbs the hit from uneven and changing surfaces to reduce foot fatigue.
  4. Traction: Salomon’s All Terrain Contagrip® outsoles provide you with excellent traction.

Cons

  1. Cost: Higher-quality boots tend to cost more than lesser-quality ones.

Final Thoughts

The primary consideration when searching for high-quality hiking boots is the material used in their construction and design. When it comes to hiking boots, you can injure yourself if you wear poor-quality boots. Having the support and comfort to make the most of your hiking or backpacking experience would be best.

I have learned over the years that you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap clothes they don't perform as well and don't last as long. Quality clothes are much more enjoyable to where and because they last so much longer they save you money over time. And they perform a lot better. That is why I enjoy writing for this website.
